Day 53 – City Hall Under Wraps and Renos, Old Montréal

Christo it’s not, but the material wrapping on the sides of the Hotel de Ville is an artistic approach to restorations. Even though the pattern does not actually match the original building design, it lends an air of elegance to a utilitarian process.

I remember taking a trip to Paris in 1991 with my daughter and seeing the same type of thing.

The front of the US Treasury Building as the front of the building was being resurfaced.

At that time, the entire front of the building was covered with a canvas tarpaulin with painted with the facade right down to the columns.

Does it have something to do with the French attitude toward art?
