Day 69 of a 365-day portrait of Canada: Montreal gets its first real snowfall, which I guess will turn to rain this evening…should be interesting on the roads and sidewalks.

Everywhere I looked today I saw city workers clearing snow from roadways and sidewalks. Montreal has a whopping $128-million snow removal budget for the 2007-2008 winter season. To deal with a single 32 cm snowfall in 2007, it cost Montreal about $20 million and involved about 3,000 city employees working 12-hour days.
