Day 132 of a 365-Day Portrait of Canada: Hotel de Glace, Fossambault sur-le-Lac, Quebec

Experience the 9th edition of the Hôtel de Glace, January 4 to March 29, 2009.

The Hôtel de Glace is a nordic event that brings to life a one-of-a-kind experience combining fun and learning, with a focus on the magic of nature and the great outdoors.

Enter a magical world where snow and ice are transformed into fabulous decors. Since it opened its doors in 2001, the Hôtel de Glace has wowed over half a million visitors! With snow archways towering over 5 meters tall and crystal ice sculptures standing by the warmth of the fire, North America’s only ice hotel has made a name for itself not only through its architecture and artistry, but also its warm hospitality.

Every year, the Hôtel de Glace is redesigned and rebuilt in its entirety. With time, it has evolved with the technical and artistic wizardry of its creators. Their team pulls out all the stops to amaze you, winter after winter.

The hallway to the suites looks like a massive igloo. The suites, interestingly enough, don’t have doors, just skins as doors.

$474,50 per person…better bring your own heater though, because it’s as cold inside as it is outside.

You must be enjoying yourselves, I know that I am when I get to see all of this vicariously through your lenses.
