Day 172 of a 365-Day Portrait of Canada: Still discovering Halifax.

The Halifax two makes a trip across Halifax harbor to Dartmouth every half an hour. It’s a great way to experience the Halifax harbor for the two dollar fare.

Steve is the captain of the Woodside ferry. Steve has worked on the ferry for 24 years and makes 36 trips across the Halifax harbor each and everyday. “You do the math.” Steve adds after telling me the amount of trips per day, so i did the math. If Steve works 46 weeks a year, 5 days a week, that works out to 27600 trips that Steve has made over his 24 years as captain of the Woodside One ferry.

Passangers read to pass the 15 minute trip across the harbor to Dartmouth.

The Canadian Coast guard are a herty bunch. With wind gusts up to 70 km per hour and three foot waves everywhere in the harbor, this small boat of three crew was out training  for extreme weather conditions.

Some young lads I met today.
