The driving conditions on the highway were absolutely atrocious today as it was snowing like crazy and there were no snow plows to be seen.
The giant 49 foot high and 23 foot wide axe was built as a project in 1991 when Nackawic was the Forestry Capital of Canada. A bronze plaque on the axe reads: ” This axe symbolizes the importance of the forest industry, past, present and future, to the Town of Nackawic and the Province of New Brunswick.” The stump (33 meters wide) in which it is embedded serves as a small stage and there is a time capsule in the head of the axe. Unfortunately, at this time of the year the stump is completely buried in the snow.
We pulled off of the highway to take a break from driving, and also to see the world’s largest axe in Naskawic.
Lion’s Club Bowling Alley in Naskawic
Senior’s Bowling
Keeping Score
Everyone was really into the game! We really appreciated how good-natured everyone was.
These fun-loving guys were having a great time!
This is the one…I can feel a strike coming on!
Lobbing the ball is not allowed. I repeat…DO NOT LOB THE BALL!
Focus and Concentration
Even though they were keeping score, you could tell that the bowling was more about the camraderie than the competiton.
But for those who are competitive…
The regular bowlers keep their bags and bowling balls at the alley.
Almost to Fredericton
It is still snowing by the time we get into Fredericton. We counted this one as blizzard number nine.
Finally we see a snowplow!
