Talk about irony…as we stood there photographing the Canada Street and Veteran Drive sign, Calvin Munn was walking past. Going out on a limb, we asked if he was possibly a veteran and to our delight and surprise Calvin replied, “well yes.”We told Calvin of our journey across Canada and asked if he might entertain the idea of posing under the Veteran Drive street sign. Calvin was a gunner in Korea and he has lived in Marysville for 48 years. On the right we have Randy, who we spotted shoveling his driveway in front of his Marysville home. Randy thinks “Canada is the best” and just loves it here!
Marysville was annexed to Fredericton in 1973.
Cotton manufacturing began in Marysville, NB, in 1885. The immense factory stretched along the eastern bank of the Nashwaak River just outside of the capital, Fredericton. Alexander “Boss” Gibson (1819-1913) created the quintessential company town around his cotton mill, supplying employment but also housing, schools, churches and stores for his workers. In 1913, Joseph Dolphins took charge of the Marysville Cotton Mill on behalf of Canadian Cottons Limited, Montreal.
The Old Cotton Mill is now called Marysville Place, and it serves as provincial government offices.
Many of the Cotton Mill workers used to live in these brick row houses that were built by Boss Gibson.
Some of the people higher up in the business had houses on the other side of the bridge.
Josh owns and runs the Canada Street Convenience store in town. And yes, it’s on Canada street for real.
Looks like someone needs to learn how to spell!

5000 km’s from our front door we finally get to the ocean. This for us was a personal accomplishment, in celebration we both dipped our foot in the salt water.
